Examples of Product Liability Lawsuits

Just about anything you buy can be a target for a product liability lawsuit if the product is found to be defective in some way that causes injury. Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and vendors have a duty to provide the public with safe products. Most product liability lawsuits come from retail merchandise, but can arise out of other goods as well.  Some of the most common types of product liability lawsuits are listed below.

Child Car Seats

Many product liability lawsuits have arisen out of defective child car seats, especially the ones that have a handle. Hundreds of small babies have been injured due to the handle on the car seat failing causing the baby to be thrown to the ground.

The most common injuries seen with these types of defective child seats are concussions, skull fractures, cuts, bruises, and cuts.

Common car seats that fail will not protect your child from injury. Car seat failures can include: shoulder straps that come loose during an accident, inadequate support that makes the child slip down in the car seat in the event of an accident, buckle and harness failure, poor shell design, and inadequate padding to protect the child from being injured.

Children’s Toys

We’ve all heard a lot in the news lately about children’s toys being recalled for one reason or another. Some of the most dangerous toys that have been the cause of product liability lawsuits include: the manufacturer marketing to the wrong age group, lack of proper warning or age restriction labels, design flaws, and manufacturing flaws.

Other common defects in some children’s toys include toys that are too small and cause a choking hazard, latex balloons, sharp points and edges, flammable fabrics, projectile toys, and toys that are electrical can cause shocks, burns, and fires.

Seat Belts

When a seat belt in a car is poorly designed or becomes defective during the manufacturing process, serious injuries and even death can occur in an accident situation.

Some of the more common defects found in seat belts include: seat belt buckles can come unlatched during the impact of an accident, retractor failure-the part of the seat belt that locks into place in an accident, and protruding release buttons that come unlatched very easily if they are bumped or hit.

Some of the most common injuries caused by defective seat belts include, abdominal injuries, spinal fractures, facial injuries, broken bones, amputations, and paralysis.

The above is just a small sample of the many types of defective products that can injure you and your family. If you believe you have been injured by a defective product, you should contact a qualified personal injury attorney as soon after the injury as possible to make sure you receive all the monetary compensation you deserve for your injuries.
